EVOSOUL Stuff in Cali Dealerships???

Add a comment

Rally Innovations has worked hard in perfecting their products for the Lancer / Ralliart / EVO X Line up.  Not bad for a company that was ultra heavy in the Subaru world just a few years ago.  I have been very fortunate to consult with John @ Rally Innovations in regards to their line up.  When he asked me what I thought of his ideas, I thought it was perfect and if you look at the picture below, you will see what I mean.   The products are simple, non invasive to the eyes.  Very OEM ish without being OEM.  Its got the simple pure style.  And thats why I am humbled to see the EVOSOUL name on it.

Here is a pic of a car out fitted with a MK 1 or level 1 of Rally Innovation mods at Anaheim Mitsubishi.  The EVO X is for sale.  If you live in the area, I highly recommend that you check it out.

If you have any questions about what you see hear just ask John at Rally Innovations yourself.  :)

Re-Release of Garrett Mitsubishi Evolution X Turbo Upgrade Kit

Add a comment

For all those EVO X guys who had their heart broken when Honeywell / Garrett announced a halt in the sale of their upgrade turbo, and those Ralliart Art guys looking to make a quantum leap past the OEM EVO X with a bigger turbo.  Listen up.   Garrett is re-releasing the product now that they are coming up with a solution to fix to fault in it.  Below will go into detail as to what the problem is and what they are doing about it.

Special thanks to evom member and moderator Clark Kent for creating this thread.

Re-Release of Garrett Mitsubishi Evolution X Turbo Upgrade Kit

In April of 2009, the Garrett Turbocharger Upgrade for the 2008+ Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X was released. In conjunction with this release, select Evo specialists were selected to test the turbo in a variety of applications including street use, drag racing, road courses and rally racing. Initial feedback from this group was overwhelming in the power gains they saw and the ease of installation; so we asked them to push the turbochargers further.

We wanted them to be as aggressive as possible on these test turbochargers but as they turned up the boost, exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs) reached unanticipated levels. Over extended periods of extreme driving, these elevated EGTs surpassed the tolerances of the turbocharger’s internal wastegate arm and valve assembly. This resulted in the wastegate arm warping away from the housing, therefore opening the wastegate port causing a subsequent loss in power. In turn, the warpage allowed the poppet valve to spin freely eventually machining itself off of the connecting rivet.

Honeywell engineers identified the problem and put an immediate halt on all production and sales of the Evo X-specific turbocharger until a solution could be designed and implemented.

The wastegate failure did NOT result in damage to any other turbocharger components other than the wastegate itself. The result of the failure was a loss of power.

Correction to Arm & Valve

There are two visually evident improvements on the re-released Garrett Turbocharger Upgrades.

First is a change of material in both the arm and valve. By moving to a stronger material, warping due to extreme temperatures is avoided.

Second is the addition of an anti-rotational pin to the poppet valve. The valve is now prevented from spinning 360 degrees, making it impossible for the valve to machine itself off of the high temp rivet.

All new units of the Garrett Mitsubishi Evolution X Turbocharger Upgrades feature the enhanced arm and valve.

We are confident that the new arm and valve assembly will provide a turbocharger upgrade that is not only powerful, but reliable for years of service!

If you have any questions, please contact a Garrett Distributor for more information.

Fog on the inside of the windshield.

One of the most annoying things that I dislike about my Mitsubishi Lancer is the very frequent build up of fog on the inside of the windows.  Now this can happen in one of two ways, either you leave your car ventilation system on recirculate or if the outside conditions of temp and humidity are just right the can cause heavy condensation build up when you start your car.  If you have alot of people in your car that can also speed up the fog accumulation while in recirculate mode.  The only way you can combat this is by turning on your A/C system which has a de-humidifier built into its operation.  Unfortunately, it doesnt make sense that one has to turn on his A/C system during the fridge cold months of winter.  What is funny is, once you turn off your A/C, the fog starts to come back right away.   Sometimes I leave the A/C cause i get tired of trying to fight it.

After 2 years of putting up with it, I finally stumbled upon Rain X - Anti Fog Interior glass treatment.  And let me tell you, it works pretty good. I even tested it out multiple times.  Now of course its not a magic bullet, over time you will need to reply the product to ensure optimal performance.  But I can say with confidence the fogging up issue is resolved. :)  Now the key to this is to ensure that your windshield is completely clean before you apply it.  Some people have given this product a write off because it didnt work.  But I am pretty sure that they didnt give the glass a complete cleaning before applying.   If you dont take the oils and dirt off the glass. it aint going to work, period!!!

Just wanted to share that for those out there that are as annoyed as I am about this issue.  I purchased this at a Walmart in Buffalo on a recent trip.  Didnt cost that much, under 10 bucks I think. possibly more like 6.  (cant remember)  someone update me if they know.  That said, Walmart has a money back refund if the product doesnt work, well thats their policy on just about everything in the store.  if it doesnt work for you, return it.  Its that simple.

Suspension options coming

Add a comment

Something I have been looking for, is finally about to make its way into the market place.  EVO X options as well as Regular lancer and Ralliart Coilovers are coming.   Options that will be inexpensive, reliable and have full adjustability in dampening force.   A few options currently exist but these ones have been keeping my eye on for sometime :)

More on this later :)

All Season Vs. Winter Tire demonstration from Conti

Add a comment

Conti Had a very simple yet effective animation on what sets All Season and Summer Tires a part from Winter Tires.  Yes its basic and has no sound but watch and you will get an idea on how your tires react on the road surface.  Play close attention to the flexing of the tire material as it spreads itself over the ground area at all temps.

Source of this video can be found at http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/us/en/continental/automobile/themes/car_tires/winter/ov_winter_en.html

Regardless of what brand you choose, you should always be riding on tires rated for winter.

Header Questions

Add a comment

Over the past year I have gotten a lot of questions, and while I was out of town I noticed 6 more in my in box.  I took the last one and wanted to show what my response was.  It is my hope that this helps alot of other guys out there :)

Question by S. J.
Been trying to find decent 421 headers to suit 2.4L CVT for ages with no luck until I can across your blog. What brand-name are the 421 headers you have posted in your blog. They look well designed and manufactured. I know they’re not RRM because thiers are 4-1. Are the 421’s in your blog available for retail sale and if so, then who/where can they be purchased from. Has anyone run them on a Dyno and recorded extra HP gain figures. Any helpful info would be very appreciated. Cheers:Sam

EVOSOUL Answer:

Hi there :)  I made a post recently about headers that might be of help for your further purchase decision.  http://forums.evolutionm.net/7999907-post7.html  to save you from clicking on it, here is what I said in response to someones RRM header leaking.

The part is not defective, but the issue of the leak is due to the stress of engine rocking back and forth. Our engine mounts are not very stiff so over time the constant stress of flexing causes the metal to fatigue much faster than a normal flex pipe. I have mentioned this here and there and sent a few emails of advice to the known header vendors for our car. I didnt hear much back except with the ASW, my singapore contacts. I have a 4-2-1 header I have been testing and modifying attempting to tweak for more power. but one thing is the same, no flex pipe can stand up to that much abuse over a short period of time.

If your header is leaking you could request a partial refund, then use the money towards repairs. then you should strongly consider either stronger motor mounts or an engine dampening kit. I am talking to ASW but it will take time.

So getting back to the topic, I dont think the part failed because it was defective, more that it was a design issue that didnt take into consideration the stresses of the engine vs downpipe.

If you need more help send me a pm. But i would first start with RRM and find out what they can do for stiffer motor mounts. They are a good company and paves way for alot of the mods you see out today. They are usually the first. And I love them for that.

I am not sure if a solid cast header is the way to go either. Old school thought on this is, there needs to be some flexing in the piping. If you reduce the flex points than, more stress will be translated to the other flex points. You may find that your muffler hangers may fail years down the road. Pipe flexion is real and pretty strong. your seeing the cause and effect of it with leaks.

hope that helps.

Getting back to your question.  The Asian Header makers of the 421 does not have a 2.4L version.  This is a problem from what Mitsubishi did last minute.  They screwed the aftermarket over by creating a 2.4L engine.  In asia their is no 2.4L variant of the lancer.  They stuck with the 2.0L  the engine is expensive from an emissions (regulation) stand point, bigger engines get stiffer manufacturing taxes :( .   That and the fact that the 2.4L has very little gain to show for a .4 increase.   You can go down the 4-1 Header route from RRM, but regardless of what vendor you buy from, you MUST REINFORCE your engine so it rocks less.  Stiff mounts are one way to go, another way to go is to litterally brace your engine against the frame or something solid to take away the engine rocking.  you will notice better response in turning when you do this.
I ask around if a 2.4 can be made for you, but i highly recommend going for a local option.  their is an Ausi company, called something like RPW or something like that, that makes headers.  I do not know anything of them, nore have I tested their stuff so i can not say if quality is there.  RRM is a good company that follows what the people wants and delivers it first.  Think of it as products in Beta.  Not perfect but for sure they are good enough.
Does that help, or no?
