Ditch the stock wheels and get some real Rims!

Add a comment

The tire talk is taking a little while, and I am concerned that all these delays will prevent me from entering Import Fest this year.   But I have been talking to a few shops about Rims and while some have made some great sponsorship offers for decent looking rims.   There is one set at this one paticular shop that still burns in my mind.

I havent come across one that looks similar but these rims are what I want.  They are the HD Inc MSR as seen here.

After 2 years of looking at my plan OEM rims, i thought it was finally time to get some real wheels.  I plan on speaking with the shop tomorrow to see how quickly i can get into these rims.

Update you guys later

The Best Defense against Rock Chips? Lancer Paint (Part 1)

I will keep this brief but its something that should be brought front and center for those who are aware of the Mitsubishi paint issues. Its unlikely, and unfortunate that Mitsubishi hasnt addressed this issue year after year, so its in everyones own hands to be extra vigilant when it comes to taking care of their paint.

But when I started asking some of the experts in the industry what can I do to minimize paint chips? How can i prevent my paint from changing color? How do I protect my white car paint from being attacked by rail dust, rust streaking? And my personal favorite. My Black paint on my lancer looks like Dog S#*(# . What is up? Or I see these spider web lines in my black paint Whats that?

If you have questions like this, it means there has already been damage done to your car or lol you picked the worst color to maintain. The number one answer that has come back that rises above things like mudflaps, or 3M plastic films is Wax. The sad thing is, not many people look into it, or think shelling out 200 dollars for a full detail and wax is just not justifiable. But no matter who i asked in the industry, everyone told me, Wax is just about the best way of protecting your paint job, and it makes your car look damn good too.

But why?  how does waxing help.  Well starting for reasons of beauty, it makes your car look brand new.  Once you see a nice black car or any car looking slick and silky, its something worth a million bucks.  When you can see your reflection and the reflection of trees in the distance as clear as a mirror, you know you did your car justice.

Now before you run out and pick up any old wax,  you gotta know right off the bat that there is a Art and Science to this, and improper do it yourself jobs can lead to crappy results, or even damage to your paint.  I will spare you the scary stories but just know that its a something you can learn to do by yourself, but I recommend, finding somoene experienced and watching them do it a while.  Then on that 3rd wax, try it yourself and have them spot you.    In some ways you can never wax enough…  you can even do it to the point of making the car feel just like a smooth babies bottom.  ”Rubberduckey” in our local car club, has mastered the art and waxes his car religiously.  If you felt the car, you would swear it felt almost human.  (just dont try to do anything with intimate with your car, thats just wrong. lol)

That is the art side of it,  but the science is finding the right kind of wax.  one that will protect your car, remain durable even after washing, and makes it look like a million bucks.  Some waxes do some of these, and leaves one out.  But if you dig deep enough you can find one that does all three.  And remember, there are different products out there. you will hear polish and wax as well.

I will try to keep this post as unbiased as possible,  I am no wax guy either, I trust what others recommend.  But so far I have been exposed to the the MEGUIAR’S NXT GENERATION TECH WAX® 2.0 brand of wax and you know, it makes a huge difference.  I can dig way way back, to images on car domain of my cars paint only days after purchasing… as seen here.

Its funny I drove back to the dealership and asked them is this normal and they kinda chuckled and said ya,  maybe you didnt wash the car right.  Ya, the two hand washes caused all that?  I then asked every other owner who had a black lancer and low and behold, the same thing,  In a show room under soft light.  it looks ok, but in the Sun, you see all the imperfections of the paint.

It took me about a  year and half of frustration, and anger of washing the car and having it still look kinda like crap.  Then I took Rubberducky up on the Wax offer.  I brought over some drinks and we spent the afternoon waxing the car.  And when we were done…. hot damn did it look good.  See for your self

And now fast forward 1 month of just normal washing off dirt with a good hand wash here and there.  And it still looks like a million bucks.

I have recently been talking to mitsubishi and a few dealerships, urging them to stop this nonesense of selling the lancer with the option of Rust protection via electronic or undercoating.  Only because, when people actually start to encounter rust on the hood or fenders, they are denied because the fine print says that the trust must rust thru. Starting from bottom up?  lol when i heard that, I was like WTF is that?  And thats the rub.  They dont tell you in how this process works, or what you even paying for.  Its 700 dollars that can do wonders on the provention / care side of things during the life of the car.   In time we may get our way and have these dealerships work out detailing services that you can buy upfront.

All that aside, I would like to get into that chipping problem.  yes a 3m film is a good investment, but should you want to go the wax route,  it can do wonders to minimize the damage done on impact of rocks.  A very dense coat of wax on the hood and fender and nose can do wonders to reduce the damage yield of impacts. so yes you may have a chip but since the wax helps to spread the impact out, when the rock lifts, the chip may actually be almost smaller than you would expect.  And in my life time I have seen alot of lancers with some pretty big chips, even rust in them :(

Anyways enough about that.. you guys get the point.  But its something to think about

XenonDepot 3000k Light Projection test

Add a comment

The camera recieved last week from ebay is having focus issues and is being sent back.  I however was able to capture a little bit of footage so I can report back how good the light projection was.  I have better demonstration ideas set for the next few weeks so you will have to wait till then.  Hopefully this will give you guys a glimps into how it looks.

On a side note. Additional hardware maybe included with the kit to ensure capatibility across the Lancer / Evo / RalliArt line up.

Endless amounts of mods

after talking to my good friend Rick and if has told me to prepare for a larger list me mods for our lancer. here is just a sneak peak at a fraction of them.  First up is another look at the ENDLESS brake Calipers. There was a request to see what they look like on a GTS, so here you go.  Second is a alternative version of the GTS spoiler wing,  this one is a little higher and adjustable.  Click on the pic to see what i mean.  After that for the front of the GTS there is a front diffuser attachment which makes the front look in some respects, more complete :)
