HIDs: You get what you pay for. The cost vs. value arguement
There seems to be a little confusion around our cars highlight system that I want to clear up. Cause I seem to get alot of email lately with guys buying either no name brand HIDs or other alternative brands. XenonDepot is the HID brand I used and I arrived at the conclusion because I took the time to check out a few other HID systems, as well as observe some of the systems that friends are running.
To date I have yet to run into a problem with Xenon Depot setup. Its 100% plug and play, plus both the Canbus Fix and Relay are doing what they are suppost to do. Let me reflect what these two things do to head off any potential problems of the the headlight upgrade.
Our car has the low beam bulb doing two functions 1) to provide normal running low beam function, 2) to provide a Day time runnning light function which basically dims the bulb.
This Dim fuction basically cuts the voltage of the bulb in half and produces a lower level of light. Now where the problem is with our HID system is that 90% to 95% of the HID system out there are single stage HID kits, m meaning, they produce one level of light generally at a steady 35watts. There are some kits (very few) that try running at 55 watts but thats a different story all together. Lets keep it simple for now.
Now running 35 watts to provide low beam light is fine, but where some run into trouble is with flickering which the head light switch is not in the on position. If it is in DRL or off (which basically is also DRL minus the yellow marker lights on around the car) than the bulb will start to flicker. This reflects the fact that power needed to run the bulb drops intermitantly to provide a dimmer light. HIDs dont work in this capacity. They dont ever dim or go brighter. They must remain stable at one power input.
The only plug and play solution to fix this flicker problem is the use of something called a Canbus Fix. Or Anti Flicker Fix as some call it. This device acts in a similar way to a mini capcitor which takes that, on off on off power input and converts it to a stable powerflow that maintains a steady stream of power for the ballast of your HID system. Some HID system are smart enough to correct for minor dips or pops in power but not on and off occurrence like DRLs. So without a doubt you want these Anti Flicker devices on your HID system. Without it, you are Killing the bulb life of your kit and risk shorting out something else as well within the ballast.
Second device you need is a Relay Harness kit. A relay works by tapping directly on to your battery and providing better stability for your HID system and compliments the Anti Flicker Canbus Fix. Without it, you will run into issues where, your bulbs may not ignite 100% of the time (more like 97%) because the voltage has to be perfect in order for your HID kit to ignite. If not it detects it as a fault and as a safety feature cuts power. (well a well designed HID kit will) A good example of this is, without a Relay and just using the Canbus fix. Situation where you turn off the car and your lights remain on for 3 minutes and then turn off. Say you stopped to pick up someone, after a minute they hop in the car and you start the engine again. Without an Anti Flicker your HID kit system will turn off and then start back up again going thru its normal ignition startup. With a Relay in place tapping power directly from the battery, your HID kit will not reset or power down so long as the car electrical system continues to supply power to the highlighting system.
What this all translates to is less flickering of the bulb. Every time your bulb flickers or turns off and then on again takes a little bit of life out of it. Minimize that and your bulbs will live a very long life.
What this means to you???? Well this is my logic.
Point blank, If your HID kit bulb blows out on you, you might as well junk the whole thing. Why do I say that. Well generally over time your bulbs age and the color varies slightly. You wont notice it yourself, but if you put a new bulb in with an old one, the difference can really stand out. Warranty is great, sure your going to get a replacement bulb or ballast or something. But when it comes to the look of your HID system (which is the real reason why you bought it) you dont want blow outs to happen. Cause it just makes your car look amaturish if one bulb is deep blue and the other is lighter blue lol or White. The focus should always buy the best kit with the best track record.
Some think the XenonDepot brand of products are expensive. 175$ hmmm ya that sound expensive. I could just buy a 50 75 or 100 dollar kit elsewhere. But my question to you is, is it worth the risk?
Why do I say that… You buy a 50 dollar kit, great, does it have a relay? no, ok fine you buy one for 30 dollars. Does it have a Anti flicker? no? ok so you get one for 40 dollars more, ok so it might come up to being slightly cheaper. But what you find out is, its still flickering? Is it worth the headache of trying to figure it out?
My point is, myself and I am guessing dozens and dozens of guys have tried out both the Japanese and Taiwanese Volt kits, with no problem, and yet to see a blow out? xenondepot has been selling the same Japanese kit (excluding the refinements) for literally 7 years. Its record can be seen on forums like clubrsx and club lexus. blow outs happen to every HID kit out there, but what is amazing is the level of quality and durability XenonDepot has.
When I refer people to buy this kit, i not doing it for profit. I do it because when I send a guy that way to go down that path, I know he is going to be able to install it by him self in 5 or 10 minutes and have years of enjoyment ahead of him. Its very rare when I hear back from someone and they say I have a problem. (generally its a simple install oversight) what can I say, all guys refuse to consult with manuals. heheh myself included.
If your still mulling over what HID kit to buy, I recommend dealing with XenonDepot. use product promotion codes found on the Evolutionm.net forums here http://forums.evolutionm.net/vendor-classifieds/447246-exclusive-pricing-xenondepot-com-hid-kits-flicker-free-save-big.html, and you should get the anti flicker and relay kit installed. or better yet, Call the owner Steve +1 9056600124 and have him personally take care of your order over the phone. Its honestly the better way to go.
Both Xtreme HID and Volt HID kits are on sale

I just figured it works on the 6500k kit but not on the 5000k kit. Any reason for that cause im looking more for the 5000k.
Thanks
Looks like the coupn doesn’T work anymore. “Coupon code “EVO” is not a valid coupon code.”
